(to touch each other?)

The recent moves President Trump made to confer with the Democrat leadership of both the House and the Senate about the DACA situation …is an encouraging development.

The question is will his Republican cohorts go along as well. That is, are they really reaching out…to touch each other…to do what needs doing for the benefit of the rest of us? Or is this just yet one more example of their mutual political games and maneuverings with each other in the face of the approaching 2018 mid-term elections?

It’s hard to say. Cynics among us may be convinced that’s the only reason for such a sudden and apparent “détente.” Although we’re inclined towards the cynics, in this instance, we’re prepared to give the President and everyone else the benefit of a doubt that they are all, indeed, now prepared to do what needs doing for the benefit of the rest of us…rather than themselves. So, we’ll have to wait and see what the outcomes will be from it before passing judgment.

What this means is that both the President and the Congress now have to buckle down and accomplish some meaningful reform results for immigration, health care, taxes, spending and debt, and infrastructure improvement and repair…with very little wiggle room left for further delay in addressing those issues.

Meanwhile, the rest of us will just have to keep on keeping on guided by that old Latin dictum of…Illigitimus Non Carborundum.
